Coffee table dog bed
I had a lot of people ask me for a simple solution to make a dog bed that didn’t require me to have a sewing machine or a ton of supplies. So I decided to try and make a simple design that is a little bit quirky and not a million dollar dog bed. It is a design that will allow for some creativity as you are filling it up.
How to make this dog bed:
What you need:
What you will need:
1) Sewing Machine
2) Hot Glue Gun
3) 2 T Shredded Cotton or T Shredded Cotton Cloth
4) Sewing Scissors
5) Needle and Thread
Step 1: Get a Piece of Cloth and Fold it.
First you need to get your cloth and fold it. You will need a long piece of cloth that will fit in your coffee table or your dog’s bed. I use a large piece of fabric and a long piece of fabric, but you could get creative and make it any size you want.
The best size would be around 9-12 inches tall. You want to make sure that the top of the coffee table or bed is around the same size.
Step 2: Measure Your Table
Once you have your table, you need to determine where to place your fabric on the table. You want to make sure the coffee table is long enough to have the fabric placed all the way down to the edge of the table. If you are using a smaller table, you can go shorter. I went with a 10 inch table so the coffee table will be 12 inches long.
Once you determine where you will put your fabric on the table, you will need to measure the length of the coffee table. Measure from the edge of the table to the middle to determine where to measure from.
Step 3: Cut the Fabric
Now that you have your coffee table, you need to cut your fabric. You will want to start by cutting out a strip of fabric that will fit your coffee table. You want to make sure the width of the fabric will be long enough to go all the way to the edge of the table.
Once you cut out a strip, you will need to cut it into smaller pieces. You want to cut the fabric so that it will create two pieces that are equal to the size of your coffee table. I use a strip that is about 18 inches wide and then cut the two pieces that equal 12 inches each.
Step 4: Glue the Fabric Down
Once you have your two pieces cut, you need to glue them down. You can use either hot glue or glue gun. You just want to make sure that the fabric is sticking down to the table. You want to keep it as flat as possible.
You can choose to have the fabric hang over the edge of the table or lay flat. I chose to go with the over the edge option.
Step 5: Add the Pillow Cushion
Now that your fabric is glued to the table, it is time to add a cushion. You want to cut two pieces that will be the same height as the table and the fabric. I like to have a thicker cushion as I like a thicker cushion to add comfort.
Step 6: Make the Stuffed Dog Bed
So now that you have your fabric glued to the coffee table, it is time to make the bed. If you are using an 8 inch table, you will need 4 pieces. If you are using a 10 inch table, you will need 5 pieces.
If you are using a 6 inch table, you will need 6 pieces. You want to fold the pieces of fabric so they are going to make one side that will be the back and then two pieces that will make the two sides.
Now you need to cut the fabric at an angle, so you will end up with a triangle shape.
Step 7: Glue the Fabric
Now that you have your triangle shape, you need to glue the fabric down. You will start by placing the triangle shape over the middle of your coffee table.
Place two pieces of the fabric down, so you will have fabric over the middle and fabric over the edge of the table. You can also glue the fabric over the side.
Step 8: Cut the Triangle
Now that you have your triangle, it is time to cut it into pieces. You will need to cut 2 pieces that are going to be the back of the bed and 2 pieces that are going to be the sides.
I recommend cutting the fabric at an angle for the sides and the back, so you can get 2 pieces that will form the sides and the back.
Step 9: Add More Fabric
Now you want to add the pillow. You are going to cut two pieces of fabric that are the same height as the table and the fabric. I like to make it a little bit bigger, so you don’t have a hard time filling the pillow. You can cut the fabric in half, so you get 2 pieces.
Next, you will want to glue them down. You will start by cutting 2 pieces that will be a little wider than the coffee table, but still the same height as the table.
Step 10: Add More Fabric
Now you will want to add another fabric on top of the pillow. You will want to cut 2 pieces that are the same height as the table and pillow. If you have a taller pillow, you will want to cut it down to the same height as the table, but if your pillow is small, you can leave it as is.
Step 11: Sew the Fabric
Now you need to add the last piece of fabric. You want to start by placing the pieces of fabric on the back of the bed. Then cut the fabric so it will create a triangle.
Next you will need to put the triangle in the pillow and glue it in place. Then you will sew it down with a strght stitch. You will want to start at the bottom of
